Chance to trek into the mass of the Dhorpatan hills at about 3000-4500m. Full of rivers and fast glacial streams. Lots of forest and animals. Visit the base camp of Churen Himal hidden behind the massive Dhaulagiri range in the wilds of lower Dolpo, and follow the Pelma Khola down from its source to the rich forests and craggy of Dhorpatan. A land myth and legend. In the settlement of Dhorpatan we can see the Bon Monastery and Tibetan Herbal Medicine School. Camping trip /occcasional tea house.


Day 01.
Drive to Pokhara. Hotel near the lake.

Day 02.
Bus to Dharapani and begin trekking.

Day 03.
Passing through beautiful fields and traditional villages and all with mountain views, we stay at Lumsum.

Day 04.
We climb towards the pass, camping wherever there is water available.

Day 05.
Deurali is our first pass, of 3,280m then we descend to camp.

Day 06.
Short walk to the isolated village of Gurja. Tek towards Gurja Himal West Base Camp.

Day 07.
Visit to Gurja Himal West Base Camp – Day Trip.  A huge mountain ice wall.

Day 08.
Trekking to Darsinge Khola.

Day 09.
Climbing steadily and spectacularly to the alpine pass of Budzunge Barra and then descend to the Budzunge Kharka – we are camping at altitude now, around 4,000m.

Day 10.
Camp at Churen Himal Base Camp, 4,200m.

Day 11.
Day trip up beside the Kaphe Glacier on a small but good trail to the Spectacular Churen Sanctuary

Day 12.
A half day for exploring – there is a 5,000m view point to climb – then trek back to Budzunge Kharka.

The trip can be extended here by 2 alternatives:

1. Following the Pelma Khola down through Dhorpatan to Pelma village – continue on towards Lower Dolpo and She Phoksundo National Park ( makes this a 35 day trip and a flight out of Juhpal). Or follow the Pelma Khola to Pelma village and return to Dhorpatan via the Phagne Pass (makes this a 28 day tip).

2. Cross the Pelma Khola just below Budzunge Kharka and across the high ridges of the Churen Wilderness to Jang La pass and in to Lower Doplo ( makes this a 35 + day trip and a flight out of Juhpal). Or you can extend by following the Baba Chu river into Dolpo and finishing at Jomson (makes this a 40 day trip with a flight out of Jomson). (May, September, October only)

Normal trek continues:

Days 13/14/15.
Fit and acclimatized, we follow the Pelma Khola down stream and turn into the hills of Dhortpatan Hunting Reserve. Here we are really in the wilds and can explore the area between the Pelma Khola/Dhorpatan village at leisure. Hunting has stopped in this area and there may be a chance to glimpse some of the wildlife.

Days 16.
Dhorpatan village and its beautiful alpine meadow valley. A chance to visit the Bon Gompa, small Buddhist Gompa and the Tibetan Medicins School.

Days 17/18.
A walk out through the rolling hills to the south and a bus to Pokhara/Kathmandu.

The Price includes:

Camping accommodation in tents and hotel and lodges where possible.
Food (except bar bill)
Staff (Guide,  cook, porters) and their all expenses

Trekking Permit, National Park Entry Permit, TIMS (Trekking Information

Ground transportation: Private bus drive Pokhara and from Pokhara Beni and from East West Highway to Kathmandu

3 nights in a hotel in KTM – Two nights before leaving for the trek and One when
returning – 3 star with breakfast!
